How do I figure out if my diamonds are real?

diamonds
Mimi asked:

I have a little Diamond necklace, it is on a sterling silver chain and it’s like a clump of teeny-tiny diamonds in the middle. How do I find out if they are real? And the reason I don’t know is because my grandma gave them to me for a present.
Please dont tell me to ask her….she died..

Welllll the easy and non-hurtable-to-your-necklace way is ask your grandma!! Unless she passed away….in which case i am sorry. but the hard you-may-hurt-your-necklace way is take a pocket knife or VERY sharp stone and try to scratch one of the “diamonds” and if it scratches, then it’s a fake diamond. if it’s REAL then it won’t scratch or get anything on it by any means whatsoever. the ONLY thing that can scratch a REAL diamond is another diamond itself. well….good luck on your little diamond quest!! :o)

Put it under a bright light and slowly rotate it.
    does it shine rainbow?
    if so then there fake.
if it just shines and no rainbow reflections
    appear then its real.
    Even if its fake
    remember its worth even more
    because its a caring gesture
    from your grandmother.
    many blessings to her.
    hope this helped.

    Diamonds are my favorites.
Put the diamond in light, if you get differnet colors.. the diamond is real.
Look at the cut fo the diamond.. make sure that it is symetrical in all areas.
There are 4 c’s to a diamond. I will enclose the website.
This is something all girls should know about.
I am sorry for your loss and even if the necklace is not real, cherish it this is a gift from grandma.

try cutting it on a mirror, or the easiest one would be to take it to a jewelry store and ask them!

A jeweler can tell but may ruin the stones in the process if they are not real. Hope this Helps.

I am sorry, but these are probably not diamonds. Diamonds would not usually be set in sterling silver. They would be set in gold or platinum - some metal more on par with their own value.

Why do you ask? Are you going to sell it?

If this necklace is special to you, what difference does it make if the diamonds are real?

If you still want to test, this webpage has lots of good tips:
