Yes asked: I read H.G. Wells’s short story “The Diamond Maker” (http://www.shortstoryarchive.com/w/diamond_maker.html), about a guy that makes diamonds by putting coal and dynamite in a steel container over a fire and setting off the dynamite.
Provided that you had the steel cylinder that could take the pressure, would it be possible to make diamonds this way?

da18102000 asked: I would like to know the number of diamonds currently in the US. People receive diamonds for engagement/weddings/self-gift/family stone/other.
I would like to know what is the aggregate number (not the new one being sold every year). Almost every family/person has diamond. I want to know the total number.
If you know the break-down by carat, this is even better.
Thank you!

I’m considering Moissanite instead of Diamonds for my long awaited engagement and eternity bands. I’ve heard great things about Moissanite, but I’m worried it’s just propaganda from those who are trying to sell it… I have no sentimental attachment to the notion of real Diamonds, but I don’t want to buy garbage either. Will it last forever? Is it truly a terrific stone? Please, I’d like to hear from jewelers or long term owners of Moissanite jewelry.
