The Cullinan diamond was split into 3 diamonds before they were each cut/polished. Why is it that we split large diamonds into smaller ones. Wouldn’t they want to have one really big diamond?

I have tried a LOT of wholesale places to buy my diamonds from, but after checking their prices, they aren’t truly wholesale. I would like to know where e-bay sellers buy their loose diamonds from. Lots of them are nice diamonds and quite reasonable, but here again, I can’t buy from e-bay to re-sell as the cost would be too high. Please, does anyone know some of the places that e-bay sellers are buying their loose diamonds from? I need help fast!
